Who fed me from her gentle breast,
And hush'd me in her arms to remainder,
And on my cheek sweetness kisses prest?
My Female parent.

When sleep forsook my open up centre,
Who was it sung sweet hushaby,
And rock'd me that I should not cry?
My Mother.

Who sat and watched my infant head,
When sleeping in my cradle bed,
And tears of sweet affection shed?
My Mother.

When hurting and sickness made me cry,
Who gazed upon my heavy eye,
And wept for fear that I should die?
My Mother.

Who wearing apparel'd my doll in clothes and so gay,
And taught me pretty how to play.
And minded all I had to say?
My Mother.

Who taught my baby lips to pray,
And love God's holy book and solar day.
And walk in Wisdom'southward pleasant style?
My Mother.

And can I ever cease to be
Appreciating and kind to thee,
Who was so very kind to me?
My Mother.

Ah, no! the idea I cannot bear;
And if God please my life to spare,
I promise I shall advantage thy care,
My Female parent.

Who ran to help me when I barbarous,
And would some pretty story tell,
Or buss the place to make it well?

Born in England to a successful and well-educated family, she and her sister Jane, who is all-time known for the archetype children�s verse, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Piffling Star, wrote a number of children�due south books. The love for my mother grows each time I thought of this verse form considering she exhibit every characters in information technology. Growing up, we ever Sang this, but years take passed by and I am just getting to sympathize the words and its true meaning. I and my married woman would sing this every night earlier going to bed 💝💖💞. I must confess that I love the verse form fifty-fifty more at present.

The illustrations fit exactly with the wording of the day. Fifty-fifty though the language is quondam-fashioned, to me, the sentiment is true, sometihing I don't often detect in older poems.
